On 15th August we commemorate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven. It is a religious feast day for Catholics and the Orthodox church and is also a public holiday in several countries.
In Lourdes, this feast is of particular importance. It is one of the major events in the Catholic calendar, attracting thousands of pilgrims from all over the world every year. They come together to celebrate the Assumption and take part in the French National Pilgrimage, organised by the Assumptionists and the Hospitality of Notre-Dame de Salut.
