On Friday 31st May, the Church celebrates the feast of the Visitation: Mary comes to meet her cousin Elizabeth, who is pregnant. In his mother’s womb, John the Baptist rejoices at the presence of the Messiah. It was during this visit that Mary uttered the Magnificat prayer, which sprang from her exultation: \u2018My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Lourdes, a place of encounters<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The biblical account of the visitation is a significant moment in the lives of two women, Mary and her cousin Elizabeth, that teaches us the importance of encounters. The first \u2018encounter\u2019 between Jesus and John the Baptist,<\/strong> who recognises his Saviour from his mother’s womb, makes him leap for joy, reminding us of the encounters we have in Lourdes.
In Lourdes, heaven touched earth when Mary, mother of Jesus, met Bernadette Soubirous.<\/strong> <\/a>Like Saint John the Baptist, pilgrims leap for joy when they meet the Lord through Mary and through our sick brothers and sisters who come to Lourdes in such numbers.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Virgin Mary lived out the three theological virtues:<\/strong> charity shown to her neighbour through her visit to her elderly cousin, hope and faith in her canticle, a true act of thanksgiving to God.<\/span><\/p>

Charity is present at Lourdes thanks to the members of the Hospitality<\/strong> <\/a>who serve the frailest and the most vulnerable.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Lourdes honours the Virgin Mary<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

During the month of May, Lourdes honours the Virgin Mary<\/strong><\/a> by the offering of a white flower to Our Lady. Throughout the month of May, volunteers from the Sanctuary place white flowers at the feet of the crowned Virgin on your behalf. These flowers complete the bouquet created by the prayers of all the pilgrims who pray the various rosaries recited every day at the Grotto.<\/p>


Friday 31st May, the feast of the Visitation,<\/strong> will be the last day on which pilgrims will be able to offer a white flower to Our Lady of Lourdes.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Way of Compassion at Lourdes: hope in faith<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Through the Sanctuary, the Way of Compassion<\/strong><\/a> is an initiative that offers practical help and support, through listening and prayer, to families faced with the loss of a child: an unborn, deceased or \u2018missing\u2019 child. This path is open to all those who, affected by this painful time, are in need of consolation. Individuals and families are guided and accompanied in their quest for inner peace.
At the end of their journey, parents are invited to write their child’s name in a \u2018Book of Life\u2019, as prayer intentions that will be offered by local nuns and pilgrims.<\/p>

Every day from 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm, by appointment.<\/strong><\/p>
